Race #2 in the SoCal Endurance Series had racers testing their mettle against the steep, punchy climbs and the fast rolling singletrack with ripping descents. Rich Maines raced to a 1st place finish in the solo male single speed category and leads the SoCal Endurance Series in his category by 12 minutes.

After a fast start, Rich settled into his race plan, staying just a few minutes behind the lead singlespeed rider, Keith Richards Dinger, for the first 7 laps. “The fast pace caught up with Keith and he took a 10 minute break after lap 7, that’s when I attacked.” Maines secured the win after his 13th lap. “I came in after 13 and knew I had the win, but I had time for one more. My wife threw a fresh water bottle at my feet and yelled ‘GO, just GO.’” Knowing it would bolster his chances of becoming the overall series winner, Maines went back out for a 14th lap, but missed the cutoff by 5 minutes. Race #3 this November will determine the overall series winner.
